IMPORTANT:
Volunteer Policy: First, thank you for your support and dedication to the students and staff of the Washoe County School District (WCSD). As a school district, protecting the safety of students and staff continues as their highest priority. During the 2019 Legislative Session, our lawmakers passed Senate Bill (SB) 185. This bill requires:
- To fully engage all community volunteers and to assure parents have the opportunity to volunteer and support their children’s education, new legislation removes the requirement of fingerprinting for a volunteer who works with students more than three times in a month, as long as the volunteer is supervised by a staff person.
- Only volunteers, volunteering as out of state or overnight chaperones, volunteer coaches, those transporting students and volunteers that are unsupervised are now required to be fingerprinted. Early fingerprinting is encouraged. For appointment information & scheduling: https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/11574
- This new volunteer policy is in effect as of July 1st, 2019. All applications can be found here: https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/3688
Those volunteers requiring fingerprinting will be required to pay $48.50 annually to process the background check. You must receive approval before you can chaperone an out of state trip. Please note the fingerprinting must be done at the school police, the address and information can be found at the above links.
Community volunteers are asked to contact Volunteer Services at 775-348-0346 or come to our location at 494 Poplar and we will assist you, walking you through any new requirements. Parents are asked to contact their school sites for additional information. Including our community and parent volunteers in supporting student education and maintaining the safety of our students is our goal at WCSD. This new legislation ensures our our ability to assure all our children are safe and our families and community are prepared to help.
