The visual art form of Winter Guard incorporates flags, rifles, sabres, and other various pieces of equipment indoors, while performing to a selection of music, classical to contemporary. Movement is also featured and integrated into the equipment work. The Damonte Ranch Winter Guard, in only it’s seventh year of existence, was the first Scholastic “A” Winterguard in 17 years from Northern Nevada to make a Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional Final and in 2015 became the first ensemble ever from Nevada to make the WGI Western Championship Finals.
This class meets after school on alternating days, as part of the Performing Arts Center at Damonte Ranch extended school day. The Winter Guard season starts at the conclusion of the Marching Band season (most members are also in the DRHS Marching Band Color Guard) in November and runs through the end of March.
